There is a web loop on the passenger side seat cushion in the gap between the seat and back cushions, just pull the loop and the seat releases forward. Use a ratchet to unbolt exposed anchors.
Check out the related link for instructions on how to remove the back seat from a Subaru Impreza.
I have done this on a 2009 Outback: Passenger side: Slide seat back remove two bolts in the front then slide seat forward and remove two bolts in back. Tip seat backwards to remove any cables for heated seat. I did not do the driver's side but looks the same except probable more wires for the power seat.
There are round knobs on the top of the seat backs on each side. Pull up on one and the push the back of the seat forward.
Sure.
The power seat on a 2001 Subaru Outback can be fixed by replacing the motor or fuse. The wires may also come loose over time which must be re-seated.
2 front, 3 in the rear seat; limited by number of seatbelts
There is an access cover under the back seat. Remove the back seat by removing 2 bolts at the front bottom edge then lift up the front of the seat and pull it out. Then the seat back can be removed in a similar manner. You will then see a round cover on the floor with a number of screws. Remove this cover to access the top of the fuel tank. Use a BRASS punch to rotate the locking ring and then remove. You can then remove the fuel level sending unit and fuel pump as one unit.
Unless you want to replace the seat on your Outback, I can't imagine a situation where it would be better to take it out than to simply fold it down. there should be a little knob on the back of the seat next to each seatbelt, the pulley that fastens it to the wall of the car. Pull that up and it will fold the back of the seat down. As far as actually removing the seat, for whatever reason, that you will find difficult to do.
There is a web loop on the passenger side seat cushion in the gap between the seat and back cushions, just pull the loop and the seat bottom releases forward. Use a ratchet to unbolt exposed anchors. That removes the whole seat back. At that point, swing the seat back to one side and use a screwdriver to unlatch the seat back from the broken seat release. Remove the seat back. At this point you have a 2 passenger car. That's how I roll. Perhaps a dealer can fix the latch mechanism inside the seat.
Put the seat belts on.
