Carbon paper has a waxy ink applied to one side. Pressure caused by a sharp object, presses this ink onto a blank sheet of paper held lightly in contact with the carbon side. This transfers most of the ink from the carbon paper to the blank sheet, leaving an exact impression of where you have applied pressure using a stylus, pencil or pen.
