The time it takes to learn how to efficiently play piano is all up to you. If you put the time and the effort in, you could be playing very well in a few months. If it's a casual hobby and you aren't pushing yourself, it could take a few years.
One suggestion is to practice with a teacher for 3-10 sessions, then continue with "Teach yourself" material like "Teach Yourself Visually" or "Alfred's" or (My Favorite) "John Thompson" .... and not difficult hand exercises of Hanon or ...
Then continue practicing EVERYDAY for a full year, between 30min to an hour.
I assure you that by then, you'll be able to play lot's of fakebooks.
If your intention is to impress your mate, or have a share on some party fun, one year is all you need.
Just practice as much as you can, try new things, and learn new songs.
Don't drink or smoke when practicing. You'll need your full neurotic powers.

i m learning it right now and it seems like ages but if u just spend an hour or more practising it on piano, you will soon be able to play the whole piece in 2-5 months...
(i think...) i have been learning it for 2 months and i know 2/3 of it!
Well first let me start by saying that " La Valse D'Amelie" is a very beautiful song. Now if you're a beginner on the piano it may be a difficult piece to learn. If you have been playing for a good amount of time by now, it will take a minimum of maybe two to three months to learn. If you're and expert or have been playing for a long period of time, the song will be a bit challenging, but once you practice it would be perfect. I took the piano lessons for two years, but then quit and then just a few months ago I started again, beginning with this piece. It took me about two months to learn, and one month to perfect it. In the end, I definitely would recommend to play "La Valse D'Amelie" because the final product will sound beautiful and I can assure you that people will be impressed. -Goodluck :)
The distinguished Piano Sonata No. 4 is the longest piano composition to have been a sonata; it is sometimes referred to as the Grand Sonata. The sonata itself was composed By Ludwig Von Beethoven.
i am 12 years old and level four at piano, it took me a week to learn it off by heart.
A LOT of people. Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, McDowell, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Schubert, Schumann, Faber & Faber, etc...even my teacher, and me myself. As long as someone made a composition of some sort, that person is a composer, and if he/she composes a piece of music for the piano, that person is a composer for the piano. Which means that if you play the piano and create a 10-measure piece, you are still a composer. Perhaps not wide-known, but still a composer.
Well when I first started piano it took me about 4 months to get through the whole thing but my piano teacher said I was one of the more faster people so... i would guess from 4-6 months but I'm not sure. Hope I helped! ^________^

If you let x equal the short piece then 3x would be the long piece. x + 3x = 24 4x = 24 x = 6 3x = 18 So, the shorter piece would be 6 ft. and the longer piece would be 18 ft.
