If you do a search on the web of casualty numbers for all wars and conflicts between Israelis and Palestinians, you can find the numbers although there are many different reports on numbers especially on the Arab side which is less exact. I took the higher estimates for all and counted approximately 19,000 Palestinians killed by Israelis and 18,885 Israelis killed by Palestinians and other Arabs since the start of the conflict in the 1920s. Also note that a further 18,300 Palestinians were killed by other Arab groups (Black September, War of the Camps, etc.).
The amount of Israeli casualties from only conflicts with the Palestinians ranges from 2,000-3,000 individuals.

These violent acts invoke Israel's right to self-defense, which Israel has just like every other nation has. In those cases, Israel has the right to defend itself up to and including the elimination of the threat.

Bearing in mind the prior Nazi massacres what gives Israel the right to try and massacre Palestinian civilians?

Palestinians in the West Bank have most of the basic freedoms to live a normal life. There are certainly constraints and there is certainly a military occupation in the West Bank, but it is nothing close to a Fascist Dystopia. As for the Gaza Strip, any prevention of civic liberty there would be directly caused by Hamas, not by Israel. Israel withdrew all of its settlers and security forces from Gaza in 2006, and handed over control to the Palestinian Authority. Israel now has no control over domestic policy there.

What caused the intifada?
There has been an ongoing dispute between Arabs and Jews in Israel from as early as 1921 (and to some degree even beforehand). In 1967 Israel won the six-day war, and decided to control the Gaza Strip, and the West Bank, and since then Palestinian wanted autonomy. In the following years (80's mainly), Israel has built settlements in the West Bank and Gaza strip, and, due to attacks on it, was very tough security wise. Also, Israel has had a war with Lebanese organizations and has seized some land in the south of Lebanon, Israel remained in Lebanon from 1982 up to 2000. On December 8, 1987 an Israeli trucker had an accident with 4 Palestinian killed. The Palestinian (especially in the Jabaliya camp located in Gaza), thought this to be a payback for an incident where an Israeli was stabbed, and started rioting. This is the first intifada of course. There was also a second one.
