Why didn't the Muslims show Mohammed's face in their paintings?

The stronger prohibition on Mohammed's face than any other form of facial representation (such as photographs or movies) is to prevent the development of a cult of deification of Mohammed. Having pictures of the prophet would inspire prophet-worship and idolatry (since they would be worshiping towards an image). This is violation of monotheism and reverence to God. Therefore, it is considered problematic.

What is Allah pictured like?

Answer: "Allah" in Arabic, corresponds to "Elohim" in Hebrew. In Aramaic, the language which Jesus spoke - the original language of the Gospel which Jesus spoke - the word is, also, "Allah". Fancy that; Jesus called God "Allah". So, to answer your question, "Allah" is not pictured. At all. The Creator of the Heavens and the Earth has no image which we can see. We do not know how God "looks". Vision can not perceive Him. He is the One who is not like anything which we can see - and there is nothing like unto Him. Glorified and High is he above anything we can even imagine.
