NOT REALLY. Many of the states have so-called "Sore-Loser" Laws. According to these laws, a candidate defeated in a primary election for a political party cannot run in the main election in the same term. As a result, Bernie Sanders, were he to run as an independent, would already be banned in roughly 20 states by the sore-loser laws. Additionally, the date for registration for presence on the ballot has expired in most states, so Bernie Sanders would be unable to register as an independent. The only way that he would be able to compete is if he became the candidate of pre-registered party (like the Green Party) in those states that do not have "Sore-Loser" Laws, however, since the likelihood of winning is so low without those states, that Bernie would likely not run.
