tell the court that Abigail's story is a hoax
In the Crucible, Elizabeth wants John to go to town and talk to Abigail to tell her that nothing is between him and her and that Abigail will leave the Proctor home alone.
At the beginning of the act, Elizabeth wants John to go to Salem to talk to the girls. She wants him to tell them they are not afflicted with witchcraft.
John has evidence that the witchcraft is a hoax perpetrated by the girls, but by giving the evidence, he will reveal his adultery and statutory rape with Abigail.
John's reaction to the prodding is he is reluctant to go. He understands that he probably should go, but he does not want to get personally involved with the activity. He wants to think this through first.

I think Hale went to Proctors house because he heard that John Proctor has been missing out on Sabeth(?) days lately and his third son has not been baptised. Also I think he went to tell John Proctor that Elizabeth's name was mentioned in Court that day.
