The great hall at Goodrich Castle is very large with dimensions of 30 feet by 66 feet. The great hall was used for entertaining guests, meetings within the castle, and dining.
From what I can gather, there are no records of Goodrich Castle being built. It is dated as late 11th or early 12th century, but we cannot know how long it took to build.
Octagonal from a birds eyed view.
At Goodrich Castle, at least 100 to 150 people would have lived there, just to take care of the Lord's family. Estimates suggest that around 200 people lived in the castle at any given time.
It was a good place to attack the castle from where they wouldn't expect an attack.
Goodrich was built in the Welsh Marshes in a strategic point and for defense. The location of Welsh castles seem to be strategic in function and also filling a political and symbolic role. The castle showed that they were the true masters of all that they ruled.
