Yes he does..... he jumps in front of a bus to save a woman, he is taken to hospital and is known as John Doe as his face is not recognisable after he was ran over.
When Meredith realizes that it is George they take him into the ER but he dies on the table.
Just to make sure that it is George, Torrezz goes in and says that it is from a freckle on his palm.
Izzy also survives from her Cancer.

George does not leave grey's anatomy he starts to leave to join the army but a girl almost gets hit by a bus and George jumps in front of it to save her. He goes to the hospital and no one knows who he is until he wrights 007 in merideths hand with his finger. Shortly later he dies!
