I believe it was the president, Harry S. Truman
My opinion is, Truman should have used the atomic bomb. If he hadn't the war would have continued, and more would have died. Also I think that at one point the Axis would have dropped a atomic bomb on an allied city, possibly killing more then at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Truman
Franklin Roosevelt- but he died before the atomic bomb was used. Harry Truman was the next president, and ordered the use of the atomic bomb.
Criticism for having used it
if by bomb you mean atomic bomb, it was truman. otherwise bombs predate the existence of the US.
August 1945, Japan, US president Truman
US President Harry S. Truman .
On August 6, 1945, the first Atomic bomb was dropped on japan. Another was dropped on August 9,1945 which ended WWII. Those are the only times in the history of warfare that an Atomic weapon was used.
Roosevelt made the decision to make the atomic bomb on October 9, 1941.As the Manhattan Project progressed Roosevelt followed developments with the assumption that the atomic bombs would be used "as made ready".Roosevelt died and when Truman is briefed on the atomic bomb he decides to change nothing. After the first two bombs are dropped on Japan and they indicate they will surrender, Truman makes the only decisionentirely his own about the atomic bomb during WW2 and orders the bombing stopped.
Harry S. Truman ordered the atomic bombs (Fat Boy and Little Man) to be dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan during the closing days of WWII. No other president has used an atomic bomb as an act of aggression. However, testing of atomic bombs lasted through many presidential terms.
President Truman responded by moving forward with a new nuclear weapon. He also created the Truman Doctrine to contain the advancement of communism by providing support to any nation threatened by communism.
