To begin, downloading copyrighted movies from the internet is illegal.
Advantages are the convenience and the fact that you don't have to pay anything.
Disadvantages are that you don't support the film makers and that you won't get as much features as a DVD would give you, such as extras. Also, downloading any file from the Internet (more frequently in this kind than regular software) offers risk of virus.
Aim to safe websites with licensed downloads, that doesn't inflict the law.
