According to the National Weather Service, lightning causes an average of 62 deaths per year in the United States. According to recent estimates, there are about 2.5 million total deaths per year in the United States.

So each person who dies in the US has about a 0.00248% chance of that death being caused by lightning.

Considering that there are about 306 million people in the US (303.5 million of which do not die each year), you have about a 0.0000202614% chance of dying each year by a lightning strike. That's about 1 in 5 million.

Because getting struck by lightening itself if highly unlikely, the likelihood that being struck by lightening and the lightening causing death is unlikely. Lightening can cause death however, but since getting struck by lightening is unlikely, yah.

Can you die taking a shower while there is a thunderstorm?

Yes, you will die. Don't do it. It's just like sex.Don;t do it, you will get pregnant and die.ANS2:The act of showering during a thunderstorm will not prevent you from dying, as your question is worded. It does, in fact, improve your odds of being struck by lightning. Being struck by lightning is not always fatal but, it frequently is. I have no idea where getting pregnant fits in with this but, it is probably best to avoid that sort of activity in the shower during a thunderstorm, too.

Do odds of lightning strike increase after initial strike?

The odds of a lightning strike do not necessarily increase after an initial strike. Each lightning strike is an independent event, and the odds of the next strike are determined by various factors such as weather conditions and geographical location. While lightning can be more likely during certain weather patterns, there is no direct correlation between subsequent strikes based on a previous one.
