The definition of sound says that it is a disturbance of energy that comes through matter as a wave, but humans perceive sound by the sense of hearing. Our eardrums and the diaphragms of microphones are only moved by the sound pressure motions.

Sound pressure is the effect and sound power (energy) is the cause.

But our eardrums are only sensitive to the sound pressure, and so are microphone diaphragms. Think of sound pressure level meters (SPL meters).

So better ask: What is sound pressure?

Acoustic energy is transferred as sound waves. We use it to hear things.

The energy may also be contained to allow the use of a refrigerator (acoustic fridge) or to scan solid objects internally (eg ultra scan). It can be used to clean objects in ultrasonic cleaning tanks and could be used to disrupt materials if the intensity is high enough (smashing kidney stones etc).

120 dB SPL is the equivalent of 1 watt per square metre intensity. The highest sound level at atmospheric pressure is 194 dB.

Yes -- Simply, acoustic energy is the energy of a 'source' transmitted through a medium (such as air or water) by the different vibrational patterns (longitudinal, transversal, etc.) of the medium's particles. Anytime there is a motion involved, there is kinetic energy.... In contrast, energy which is stored but not flowing, is dubbed as potential. An example of the latter would be a spring compressed or stretched from its equilibrium position and held fixed (not released to vibrate).
