The fruit of grape tomatoes are smaller by about a half, more elongated, sweeter, lower in water content and have thicker skin than cherry tomatoes. This has made them popular for use in salads as they are easier to manage than the larger, juicier cherry tomatoes.

Horticulturally, they grow in long clusters - yes, like a grape! - with a longer growing season. Unlike cherry tomatoes, they won't ripen any further once picked. They are a cross between Roma, teardrop, and cherry tomatoes. The variety commonly sold in supermarkets is an F1 hybrid.

All tomatoes grow on vines. Stores may advertise "vine-ripened" tomatoes because these are tomatoes that have not been picked while green and sprayed with gas in order to keep them from rotting during long trips from the field to the grocery market.

Vine-ripened tomatoes are usually sweeter, more evenly ripened, and more tender than "regular" tomatoes that have to ripen after you get them home.

Plain or "regular" tomatoes (non-vine-ripened) may be ripened by placing them in a bag or other container, which allows the collection of ethylene gas which hastens the ripening process.

Some fruits, such as bananas, avocados and peaches, also give off ethylene gas and are recommended for placement in a bag or other container next to an unripe tomato to hasten ripening.

Strawberries are NOT vegetables. They ARE fruit. The green pod like things are actually considered the fruit so it's actually multiple fruit in one.
