The term engineering means "to design something to resolve a problem" (no matter the type of problem). Electronics and Telecommunication engineering could very well mean "the design of components to further the advancement of technology" while electronics and communication would mean "the study of current technology and how to use it" Electronics communication is the art of transferring DATA from one device to another such as computer networks operating on a hub in some office. Telecommunication is the art of using telephones lines or other media to transfer DATA. Both require different design criteria even thought very similar in nature. Engineering is a word to describe the process of designing one art or the other.

Electronics is a branch of science that deals with the flow of electrons through non metallic conductors or semiconductor. Communication is a process of transferring information from one entity to another. In late 1950 electronic is called "radio technology" because its application was also the design and theory of radio transmitter, receivers and vacuum tubes. As the evolution of electronics getting advance the process of communication is also getting easier and ranged globally.

The original question (What makes electronics and communication engineering better than mechanical engineering?) made the unsupported assumption that electronics and communication engineering is "better" than mechanical engineering. It also provides no criteria on which to judge what constitutes "better".

Having noted the inherent problems with the question, we can still note some advantages of one type of engineering over the other:

1) fewer schools offer electronics and communication engineering so there should be less competition for jobs in that field

2) perhaps for that reason, electronics and communication engineering graduates average a higher starting salary than mechanical engineering

3) mechanical engineering still tends to be more male dominated than electronics and communication engineering so the latter may be more female-friendly as a discipline

4) mechanical engineering tends to work in dirtier environments than electronics and communications engineering so if dirt, grime, filth, and bad smells bother you then electronics and communications engineering would be preferable

What is the difference between a electronics engineering technology occupational associate's degree and a electronics engineering associate's degree?

Typically, the occupational associates is designed to give the student all the expertise necessary to enter the workforce in entry level positions immediately after completion of the degree. The engineering associates is designed for transfer to a four year college or university for the bachelor's degree. However, it depends on the institution their approach and intent particular to each degree.
