The fighter had poor turning, and attempting to do so in a fight would slow it down. The Me262's immense speed meant that no one could ever hope to outrun it. Once it finished a pass, it could pull up and nothing could track it without stalling first.

In the end, most of the Me262's were destroyed on the ground, and the remaining were captured by American and Soviet troops after the war.

Incidentally, the Me262 wasn't the only World War II-era jet fighter. The Gloster Meteor, a British-manufactured turbojet fighter, was the first and only allied jet fighter to enter combat. It was significantly slower than the Me262, with a top speed of just 415 mph, but it was far more reliable.

During the middle years the Hawker Typhoon, De Havilland Mosquito & Bristol Beaufighter were probably the fastest and towards the end, Hawker Tempest and Sea Fury as well as the Gloster Meteor (first British Jest Fighter.)
