Resulting from the Missouri was a division of territory west of that state being divided north and south between possible slave and free states. Also, to keep a balance of slave and free states in Congress, Maine was admitted as a free state at the same time Missouri became a slave state.

it changed the way people handled slavery. The government said that north's side of the u.s. (wich were slave free cities) was not more powerful than the senate and that the south's side of the u.s (wich were slave cities) was neather more powerful than the senate. Thats because both sides were equally number of cities.
