Most chickens (i.e. Barred Rock, Rhode Island Reds, Leghorns) are between 5-6 months old before they start laying eggs.
A mature/bright comb and waddle indicate a chicken is ready to start laying eggs.
If you can fit 3 fingers between the pelvic bones, that also means they are ready to start laying eggs.
She could start again within 4 weeks but in varies. Some breeds like Cochins are constant brooders and once the chicks are safely in among the flock they often brood again almost immediately after having laid only two or three eggs. With other hens adding to the clutch right away they stop production.
Folk sayings have it that hens start laying on St Valentines Day, which should help with a certain goddess. -Tom777
They don't stop laying eggs until they are old.
Most breeds of chickens will begin laying eggs at six (6) months of age. Also depends on health and season of year.
Cold weather does effect a hens laying. when the temperature is below 55 degrees or so this can effect a hens production. Mainly though the reduction in hours of daylight causes hens to stop laying. Anything below 14 hours of daylight will cause a hen to stop laying.
A disruption in routine can cause a slow down in egg production for as long as 10 days. Once the hens settle back in and find nesting boxes to their liking they will resume egg laying.
NO. It would be counter productive to supply an appetite suppressant to laying hens. The whole idea of feeding the hens laying mash is to have them produce better quality eggs not get them to eat less.
generally, for the first few times, the egg will be laid in random places, then as they get into a routine, the hen will lay in the nesting box
Hens will either stop laying due to old age, or decreasing sunlight. To keep them laying during winter you have to provide artificial light for them so they think it gets darker at the usual summer time.

when they first start it is because they are missing some chemical in their diet. after they start doing it, it is almost impossible to get them to stop.
Female chickens (hens) generally start laying eggs at around 20-24 weeks of age. Some breeds take longer. They don't need a rooster to lay eggs and if you are lucky they will lay an egg per day. Again this depends on the breed, with some chickens laying an egg every few days. They lay less over winter, when they are moulting or when they are stressed.
I raise true Araucana chickens and Araucana hens are usually a bit slow to start laying. On average in good conditions and with excellent lighting, the Araucana hens with lay their first eggs at around 5 to 6 months old. Americana chickens will often start to lay eggs much sooner at about 16 weeks of age.
