It is a mystery just where it came from, but it known that German immigrants in the 1900's brought a dish similar to the states. At the St. Louis Fair in 1921 they were selling Hamburgers and the modern bun was invented by J. Walter Anderson in 1916. He is also founder of the White Castle hamburger chain.

∙ 7y agoHamburgers appeared in the late 19th or the early 20th Centuries. Invention of the hamburger in the USA is disputed. A mixture of beef and other ingredients is mentioned in ancient Roman recipes as early as the 4th Century. In the 12th Century nomadic Mongols carried food made of milk and meat. Germany is known to have created ground meat products adding caper and onions to the blend; selling as a 'street food'. European immigrants during the 19th Century no doubt introduced the hamburger to the USA
