It is sometimes used for that, but is becoming increasingly less effective. In our area, it works less than 2/3 of the time. Talk to your health care provider about medication that is most likely to work in your situation.

You can use anything you want to in treating a urinary tract infection (UTI). But what should you use? Should you use ciprofloxacin? That depends. This particular generic antibiotic is sometimes prescribed for a UTI, but prescribing physicians usually want some idea of what the actual "bug" is that is infecting the urinary tract before deciding what medication to prescribe. With maybe a dozen different drug options, it doesn't make sense not to do something like a sensitivity test to see which of the medications will be most effective. In a UTI, there are some consequences for "not getting it right" with a treatment plan. And they can be serious. You shouldn't be "winging it" by yourself. You should be seeking a medical professional for advice. Pretty soon. Use the link for more information.

The doctor should have done a culture and sensitivity on the urinalysis. The culture will show what kind of bugs are growing and the sensitivity will show what drugs will treat the infection. Cipro is a good antibiotic and it is used to treat UTI's. It will work if the culture is sensitive to the drug.

Yes, it is a wide range antibiotic that is used in the treatment of urinary infections. If you have no improvement by taking this medicine or if it develops drug resistance, you can take a different medication treatment like herbal medicine called diuretic and anti-inflammatory pill, which is natural with no side effects.
