South by Southwest, a music, film and technology conference held every March in Austin, Texas is known as the launch pad for "the next big thing." Many bands and businesses have gained popularity after attending the conference. Most famously, Twitter was launched at SXSW in 2007. It is an all around great conference for networking and buzz for your startup.
Only 2 Indians have been in space:
Kalpana Chawla (Indian-American): 2003 on Columbia
Rakesh Sharma (Indian): 1982 on Soyuz T-11
You can purchase tickets on their website. On-site registration is also an option. Since the event has already started as of this writing, the cheapest ticket (film only) is $550, while the three-event platinum ticket for the film, music, and interactive sessions is $1250. If you mean "how do you get tickets to SXSW 2011 without buying them," then the answer is probably "you don't." There might be a contest sponsored by a local radio station or something, but I don't personally know of any, and as with any contest, you'd have to be extremely lucky to win them anyway.
While the interactive session ends today (March 15), the platinum ticket is still $50 cheaper than the combined cost of the film and music tickets, so is a good deal even if you don't plan on going to any of the interactive sessions.
SXSW stands for South By Southwest, a mega event held in Austin, Texas every year.
